The goal is to accommodate cricket fans from the Indian subcontinent by offering matches at more convenient times. If cricket games are held on the East Coast, they would be broadcast in India during the evening, enhancing viewership.

The time difference between New York and India is 9.5 hours, compared to LA’s 12.5-hour difference. This means games starting at 10:30-11:00 AM in New York would air around 8:00 PM in India, allowing fans to enjoy matches at prime time. This strategy mirrors the approach taken by the International Cricket Council (ICC) during the recent Twenty20 World Cup, which also catered to the subcontinent's schedule.

However, controversy surrounds the idea of holding cricket games in New York, with some ICC officials facing allegations of fund misuse. There is also the challenge of finding a suitable cricket venue, as the US has limited cricket infrastructure. Recent World Cup games in New York were played in a modular stadium in Long Island, which was dismantled after the tournament. Other potential locations include Dallas, Texas, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, which hosted Major League Cricket (MLC) matches.

LA28 organizers are yet to finalize the venue, but hosting the cricket competition outside the host city is not a first in Olympic history. Similar arrangements were made for football matches during the Paris and 1984 Los Angeles Games.
